Alright, I am not suggesting any ideas for your personal life here, I claim no authority in that area! But, as I’m sitting here going through some e-mails, I’m hearing Wife Swap on tv. I know a lot of people have strong thoughts on this show…kind of a love it or hate it thing.
Well, as you know, if you’ve read any of my articles, etc., I’m constantly looking for ways to compare pop culture references to my business and all small business for that matter.
So, how am I going to manage this one? Simple. As an entrepreneur, I will admit that I can often get a bit set in my ways. If I’ve found what I think is an efficient way to market or work, I can be a little skeptical of “new” thoughts on the issues.
I’ve found that it never hurts to stop telling people how I do things for a moment and ask them how they would accomplish the same objectives. And if you find yourself a little wary about asking for opinions, it can make the entire situation more comfortable if you approach it like good old “Wife Swap.”
Kind of an “I’ll show you mine if you’ll show me yours” for the small business owner! Basically, find a colleague that you respect and agree to examine each other’s businesses from the bottom up.
You might be surprised to find out how someone else would approach your job. You might not agree with all of your friend’s ideas…let’s be honest, you might not agree with any of them. But just discussing your challenges with someone who has similar issues might just be the jumpstart your brain needs.
