Walking the customer service walk

I just read a great post on customer service from Denise O’Berry over at AllBusiness.com. She tells of a recent, unpleasant customer service recent experience in a retail store that made a point of prominently displaying a “We Provide Superior Customer Service” sign.

I can certainly empathize!  It’s amazing to me the time, effort and money put into customer service mottos and displays in businesses where they have obviously not matched that time and effort into hiring and training.

I think that if a company DOES put that extra effort into hiring and training customer service minded employees, they should be proud and let their customers know it.  But, if your customer service efforts are lackluster or average at best, displaying such pledges, mission statements, etc. really puts a spotlight on an area that you might not want highlighted :)
