Micromanagers —Ah, that word makes me cringe!

You all know these people. Hopefully, you aren’t one of these people! Anyway, years of working for these people is a big part of why I am now self-employed. So, I guess I should be saying thank you to these people!!

Anyway, just had to add my two cents on the subject as I just read a great post from Olivier Blanchard on the Brand Builder Blog. The post is entitled A management lesson from the Navy SEALS.
You should really check out his post, but basically it is a story of a Navy SEALS training exercise gone wrong or right depending on your point of view. The trainees decided to take a shortcut to their task, it blew up in their faces(literally), and they were then subjected to a week of “camp stupid” which was sleeping on a cold beach.
Anyway, the quote he gave from the commanding officer is classic and inspired me to mention the topic…
“This is how we create micromanagers. By doing stuff like this. How are you going to get officers to trust you to do your jobs on your own if you can’t even follow simple instructions? If there’s something I hate, it’s micromanagers, but this is how we create them.”
