CNN has an interesting report Who Loves Small Business Best. The Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council ranked all 50 US states based on their small business friendly policies for FSB.com. The rankings are based on taxes, energy cost, bureaucracy and labor costs.
The top 10 states in the survey are:
- South Dakota
- Nevada
- Wyoming
- Alabama
- Washington
- Florida
- Mississippi
- Colorado
- Texas
- Michigan
Sadly, my homestate of Kansas came in at a lowly #35! The most notable factor in KS’s ranking to me was the bureaucracy figure… 6.62 state and local govt. bureaucrats per 100 residents! 6% of Kansans are bureaucrats?! How come it takes so long for me to get answers to inquiries from the government offices?
